A high-performance water treatment solution for residential and light commercial applications. This system features a reliable design that does not require electricity for operation.
It utilizes a blend of premium media, including
  • Granular Activated Carbon (GAC),
  • Catalytic Carbon,
  • KDF 55,

to effectively remove a wide range of contaminants and impurities from water. The Penguin Water Non-Electric Upflow Carbon Filter is engineered for maximum performance and durability, providing superior water quality and peace of mind.

1. Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)

GAC works primarily through adsorption, acting like a high-surface-area sponge for organic chemicals and common city-water additives.

  • Chlorine: Highly effective at removing the "bleach" taste and odor.

  • VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds): Including benzene, toluene, and xylene.

  • PFAS/PFOA: Often referred to as "forever chemicals."

  • Pesticides and Herbicides: Agricultural runoff like atrazine and simazine.

  • Trihalomethanes (THMs): Harmful byproducts of chlorine disinfection.

  • TCE (Trichloroethylene): A common industrial solvent.

  • General Odors: Removes earthy or musty smells caused by algae or decaying vegetation.

2. Catalytic Carbon

Think of this as "GAC on steroids." It undergoes an additional chemical treatment to enhance its ability to promote chemical reactions (catalysis).

  • Chloramines: Standard GAC is too slow to catch chloramines (chlorine + ammonia); Catalytic Carbon breaks them down efficiently.

  • Hydrogen Sulfide ($H_2S$): Effectively removes that "rotten egg" smell common in well water.

  • Sulfur: Targets various sulfur compounds that GAC might miss.

  • Iron (Small amounts): Can help oxidize dissolved iron so it can be filtered out.

3. KDF 55 (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion)

This is a high-purity copper-zinc alloy that uses a process called redox (oxidation-reduction) to "trade" electrons with contaminants, changing them into harmless substances.

  • Heavy Metals: Removes up to 98% of water-soluble Lead, Mercury, Copper, Nickel, and Chromium.

  • Inorganic Chlorine: Converts free chlorine into chloride ions.

  • Bacteria and Algae: It is bacteriostatic, meaning it creates an electrolytic field that prevents bacteria and fungi from growing inside the filter.

  • Water-Soluble Cations: Helps reduce scale buildup by altering the structure of calcium and magnesium minerals.

Quick Comparison Table

Contaminant GAC Catalytic Carbon KDF 55
Chlorine High High High
Chloramines Low High Low
Lead / Mercury Low Low High
VOCs / PFAS High High Low
Rotten Egg Odor Low High Moderate
Bacteria Growth No No Yes (Inhibits)

It is a reliable solution for reducing the presence of chlorine, chloramines, chemicals, pesticides, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other impurities in the water supply. This advanced filter has a flow rate of up to 15 gallons per minute (GPM), ensuring efficient operation and consistent water flow throughout the establishment. Its unique upflow design minimizes media channeling and ensures maximum contact time with the media, resulting in efficient removal of impurities.

Choose the Penguin Water Non-Electric Upflow Carbon Filter for a reliable, cost-effective solution for improving water quality and reducing the presence of contaminants in residential and light commercial applications.
