This replacement filter is the 2nd filter in the 3 stage and the 4 stage whole house filtration system.

It needs to be replaced every 6 to 9 months

If before that time, you start to smell chlorine in your water, then you should replace stage 2 and stage 4

This is a special blend of GAC and KDF Media

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)
GAC works through a process called adsorption, where organic molecules are trapped in its highly porous surface.
  • Contaminants Removed:
    • Organic Chemicals: Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), pesticides, herbicides, and industrial solvents.
    • Aesthetic Improvements: Unwanted tastes, odors, and colors.
    • Disinfectants: Chlorine and chloramine (adsorbed chemically).
    • Byproducts: Trihalomethanes (THMs), a byproduct of chlorine disinfection.
    • Other: Radon and Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS).

Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF)
KDF media, made from high-purity copper-zinc granules, uses an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction to convert harmful substances into harmless or removable components.

Contaminants Removed:

    • Heavy Metals: Lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, iron, and aluminum.
    • Disinfectants: Over 99% of free chlorine is converted into benign, water-soluble chloride.
    • Gases: Hydrogen sulfide (which causes a "rotten egg" smell).
    • Microorganisms: Controls bacteria, algae, and fungi growth by creating an environment toxic to them, which also extends the life of accompanying carbon filters.
Due to the different strengths of each media, KDF and GAC are frequently used together in multi-stage filtration systems (e.g., whole house filters). KDF media acts as a pre-filter, removing chlorine and heavy metals and inhibiting bacterial growth, which protects the GAC layer and extends its lifespan and efficiency in removing organic compounds, tastes, and odors.
